Tulliera is partly a rehabilitation project of degraded land in Delimara, Malta, partly a farm-to-fork concept for consumers and catering establishments alike, and partly a vision for sustainable agritourism.

A Rehabilitation Project

Tulliera is a thriving farm focussed on promoting authentic Maltese farming that is indigenous and sustainable. Before we became the custodians of the Tulliera land, it was a degraded area in the south of Malta that had illegal structures and was being used as a bird trapping and hunting site. When we first obtained the land, the abusive behaviour meant we had to remove squatters and settle infringement fines before we could even begin to restore the area for agricultural use. That done, we began to carefully study the site to create a detailed plan to rehabilitate the land. The labour of love began with clearing the area from rubbish and scrap, and the removal of bird trapping equipment. We then set about levelling the terraced fields and reinstating the rubble walls. Eventually, the land became equipped with a large water reservoir, agricultural stores, greenhouses, a chicken farm, a goat farm and plenty more. And the farm continues to grow and evolve everyday.

Our Pledge to Sustainability

From Farm to Fork

The farm produces premium products as they are mainly of organic origin, sustainable and homemade. For example, sea salt is sold as is and it is also the preservative in the preserves made from our crops. And the local bee breed produces honey as well as beeswax for our candles, soaps and creams. The goat farm not only produces diary products, it is itself an attraction as the Maltese Goat is being revived from near-extinction. In fact, our farm focuses on breeding indigenous Maltese species, such as the Maltese Ox, the Maltese Black Hen, the Maltese Goat and the Maltese Bee. We safeguard these unique local species and promote their products sustainably. We also offer other traditional local produce, including sea salt that is hand-harvested from our Delimara salt pans. We serve the local hotels-and-restaurants industry and consumers directly through our online shop. Read more about our mission, shop online for our products and try our recipes.

Our Calling

A Vision for Agritourism

Our vision extends to the restoration and reopening of a structure that was formerly a boutique hotel built in the 1950s. This project will also be aligned with our value of sustainability as well as promoting authentic Maltese hospitality in a traditional farmstead environment. When the Agritourism establishment is ready to welcome guests in the foreseeable future, it will provide a rich agricultural tourism experience that is relaxing and educational, and appeals to both foreign and local visitors.
